HOW TO MOTIVATE A PARKINSON’S PATIENT

I AM A PHYSICAL THERAPIST IN CALCUTTA,INDIA . I AM NOW DEALING WITH SOME PD PATIENTS.I HAVE A PATIENT OF AGE64 YRS SUFFERING FROM PD FOR THE LAST 6 YRS . RECENTLY SHE DEVELOPED DAYTIME SLEEPINESS,APATHY,NEGATIVE THINKING ,LACK OF INTEREST TO GO OUT . SHE IS DOING EXERCISES AND WALK ALONE INSIDE HOME .HOW I CAN MOTIVATE HER ?WHAT ARE THE MEASURES NEEDED TO REDUCE THESE PROBLEMS ?THANKS MUCHHIRAK KAR,B.P.T. MIAPINDIA

HOW TO MOTIVATE A PARKINSON’S PATIENT/strong>: Increasingly, apathy is recognized as an entity separate from depression in PD. But to make sure that her lack of motivation is not a symptom of depression, I would make sure she have received adequate medical treatment for depression. Another bit of advice: providing a very strict structure (having a schedule of activities that she is required to follow for each waking moment of the day) will ensure that she exercises, eats well and interacts with family and friends.
