One of the principal missions of the Parkinson Research Foundation that distinguishes it from other Parkinson organizations is a focus on patient services and education that enables Parkinson patients and their caregivers to live fuller and more comfortable lives with Parkinson’s disease. PRF’s Parkinson Place project, seminars, conferences, and educational opportunities offer life-changing classes, tools and knowledge for people affected by Parkinson’s disease.
One of our special projects for the 2012-2013 fiscal year was Parkinson Place a 7500 square foot facility whose mission is to bring evidence based programs free of charge to the Sarasota, Bradenton and Charlotte county Parkinson’s residents and their caregivers.
Parkinson Place , in its third year has proved a huge success and has grown into a multidisciplinary care center. The now 11,000 square foot facility houses the USF Parkinson Clinic, a general Neurology Clinic, Psychology Clinic, Physical Therapy Clinic and a Speech and Swallowing Clinic. It also houses a FREE evidence based Integrative Medicine Program including Gentle Yoga, Tai Chi, Fun Fitness, Giant Steps, Let’s Dance, Ageless Grace and Voice Aerobics. In addition it provides free Education, Empowerment and Support programs such as monthly “Ask The Doctor” Lunch and Learn sessions, Weekly “Parkinson Power” Lunch and Learn sessions and “Who Cares” – caregivers only club.
The success of this program has encouraged our foundation to assist with their hope to extend the reach of this program to a National and even International level. By means of video Podcasts Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers are now able to participate in the free programs available to local Sarasota residents. This is a huge project with great potential to affect the lives of so many and we are very excited to be a part of it! Be sure to visit Parkinson Place and see what the donations of others has made possible.
Our next project in support of Parkinson patients and caregivers is to make Parkinson Place a possibility for local centers around the country. This is huge project with great potential for good. Please help us make this a reality for the over 1,000,000 and growing Parkinson Patients. Your Donations Will “Help Us Help Others”Today! Please join us in the fight to help them have quality of life while we all look for a cure.
As always Parkinson Research Foundation thanks you, its donors for your generous and continued support.
